THE HORIZON is a unique ranch community just outside the city limits of Kerrville, Texas comprised of approximately 1,082 acres. It is subdivided into Section 1 containing 131 lots, and Section 2 – 25 lots.
Planning for the development began in 1995. Landmark, the original developer, sought to form a residential community on an existing ranch with high game fences and exotic wildlife (i.e., not native to Texas) instead of cows and horses and in addition to native white tail deer. The Horizon was founded officially in 1997.
It is completely enclosed with an 8-foot game fence to contain several varieties of deer: native Texas whitetail, Axis, Sika, and several types of Fallow. In addition, there are black buck antelope, many wild turkeys, and native birds, including the roadrunner, foxes and occasionally, feral hogs and mountain lions pass through the property.
The ranch is classified 1d1 agricultural exempt because of the exotic game management program run by the Horizon Owner’s Association (HOA). This exemption, approved and monitored by the County, requires adherence to State regulations in meeting criteria for the exotic wildlife, such as, providing supplemental feeding, performing herd counts, harvesting white-tail deer, trapping and selling exotics based on population.
